A Higher Knowing
There is a higher righteousness,[i]
by a higher grace,[ii]
through a higher faith,[iii]
by a higher hearing,[iv]
by a higher word,[v]
of a higher truth,[vi]
to a higher freedom,[vii]
and a higher possibility,[viii]
through a higher Life,[ix]
through a higher Knowing[x]
of Him[xi]
A word to the weary in the struggle against the knowledge of evil, against limitation, and in the wait for His promise…
The poetic string heading this piece leads us by way of meditation out of the struggle we endure into the place of superseding peace. These phrases drawn from scripture connect into a single thread the substance of the spiritual life by which we live in the face of present mortal struggle.
In the main, it is two opponents we face in this life. The one is the knowledge of undefeatable evil, whether of our own sin, or the sin of others near and dear to us, or that of all the evil in the world surrounding us and mounting daily.
The other is the knowledge of insurmountable limitation, of that by which we do not have enough, or are unable to perform, whether relationally or circumstantially or physically or monetarily or legally.
In the both of these, we sense ourselves to be confined and trapped, powerless and helpless. Daily we face the knowledge of evil and of limitation in one form or other, to greater or lesser degree, from which stem all our fears and imperfections in love. Such evil and limitation is now pressuring itself upon us to degrees never before experienced or imagined by the people of our generation.
Yet no matter the apparent undefeatability of the evil, or apparent insurmountability of the limitation, the Word of the Lord found through our poetic string here contains all that is necessary to lead us to the greater trans-possibility of deliverance, victory, restoration of what has been lost, stolen or destroyed—unto ultimate fullness of satisfaction and accord…all finally residing in a more practical, experiential knowing of Him just beyond and out of sight of our present horizon.
If we will but pull apart to turn off the voices, tune out the noise, and so meditate on this string and upon the scripture phrases below from which it is composed, not allowing ourselves to be moved from it, we will come to that horizon, to that place where earth and heaven meet regarding the present evil and/or limitation. The time lapse involved in this “coming to” is of no account, whether of days or of decades. For it is not an issue of time in the Eternal One.
&&&&&&&&&&May I but close this brief meditation only by observing the inseparable intertwine between these two opponents, evil and limitation, and of the coadjutant relationship of faiths to their defeat and surmounting. For our faith for the one is inextricably necessary to our faith for the other.
Jesus came to set us free from our sins of soul and the knowledge of evil around us. But He did so only by also showing His superiority over all natural limitation of the body. Faith for righteousness and faith for provision were all of one. Faith for forgiveness and faith for healing were all of one. Faith for casting demons out of the body, and for casting bodies out of the grave were all of one.
By this, the Lord would have us see our struggle against these dual opponents as one struggle. We are not therefore to separate our faith for righteous deliverance of soul from our faith for circumstantial deliverance of body.
Salvation from practical need and from internal sin are to be believed and engaged together as one. For in such separating of faiths our people have historically erred, foiling our own growth, pitting prosperity against righteousness, and righteousness against prosperity.
The Lord is Lord of all, and Savior of all our dimensions. And by struggle with one in light of struggle with the other, He would save us from both sin and limitation. This is the true righteousness and holiness.
“Lord, no matter today’s besetting evil and limitation,
may this string of Life from Your Word
lead to today’s Higher Knowing of You
that delivers from all evil and impossibility.”
Amen.
