Has the Gospel Failed?
Rom. 7:7 [adapted]: What shall we say then? [Has the gospel failed]? May it never be!
In keeping with our understanding of gentile spiritual failure throughout this Second Age of Unbelief, we stand to say that the gospel of salvation preached through mortals has come to the end of its shelf life as the medium through which God imparts New Covenantal eternal life into men. Mortals can no longer be trusted with this “treasure in earthen vessels.” In the hands of mortals, the Gospel—God’s power of life unto salvation—has either been neglected or perverted in the hands of men. It is a wonder that God has even been able to accomplish anything in this age through it.Does this mean the gospel has failed? No. Not at all. It is the opposite. It’s because the gospel, in spite of its failed housing, has succeeded in its mission that there will be a New Revelation of Christ to the earth.
The mission assigned to the Gospel is very parallel to that assigned to the Law. Like the Law before it, the Gospel as transmitted through mortals was doomed to failure to directly produce the faithful manifestation of God’s kingdom among mankind. The Lord knew this would not happen, and did not assign this purpose to it—any more than He assigned that righteousness should come through the Law. Rather, like the Law, the Lord has used the gospel to expose the failure of man at large (specifically Gentile mankind) to fulfil the establishing of His kingdom in the earth, even when presented with a medium that actually imparts Eternal Life.
Under cover of the darkness of mortality, the gospel’s true mission has, like the Law’s mission, been a secret mission—not the mission as openly thought pertaining to it. What men thought the Law should accomplish failed. But the Law did not fail in its true mission, which was to prepare for the incarnation of One born under it who alone could and would fulfill it.
And now, we have come to that time when the Gospel’s secret mission has come to its completion, and stewardship of the mystery of salvation is to pass to the Next Revelation of Christ. We all thought the gospel was to produce the manifestation of the Kingdom on earth. Indeed, it has failed to do so. But it has not failed in its true mission, which is to prepare for the glorified incarnation of a Body born under it who alone can and will indeed fulfill that manifestation, and are to form its foundation in the next age.
In that day, as men are now no longer under the Law, so then neither will men receive the impartation of Eternal Life through a mortally, faultily transmitted gospel. They will be joined to Christ directly through the Next Revelation of Christ.
It is all to ponder….
