Reading America’s Sundial after the 2008 Election

        Part I

[Part I]   [Part II]   [Part III]   [Part IV]   [Part V]   [Part VI]   [Part VII ]   [ Part VIII] [ Part IX]

            November 7, 2008

The soul searching has begun. Amid a silent awareness that America isn’t the same country it was before last Tuesday, prophetic intercessory hearts are on the floor. The election didn’t just produce a temporary setback against the God-ward side of the culture. Something changed in the entire national atmosphere. And, contrary to all the prophecies, it is opposite the direction of revival. And everyone except the mesmerized knows it.

The question now is: what does the new spiritual sky mean for the prophetic-intercessory church in America? Is it about “regrouping to fight the battle another day,” to sum Dutch Sheets’ assessment? Or does it rather point to a repudiation of the whole prophetic-intercessory approach to doing battle in America? Was the political referendum in actuality a heavenly referendum on us? What does the Lord really have to say about it all, especially given how silent He was in the face of the intercessors?

Many continue pondering this deeply. For certain, a new night has fallen on America. This nightfall ends the day begun in 1980 when the theme of the Reagan campaign was, “It’s morning in America.” It is morning no more. In fact the sun has been setting on that day for quite a long time. But now, it has finally gone down.

Yet the scriptures also repeatedly come to me, “They that sat in darkness have seen a great light… on them has a great light shined…Arise shine, for the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”

I believe that in this new dusk, the Lord yet has another kind of light for the wise. Night warfare requires night-vision weapons. The Lord has a new “infrared” vision to give us. He will give us the light of Ps. 119:105 and the lamps of Gideon. And with that light we will be able to prevail as an eternal people, however long the night lasts until the next daystar arises on the American culture, or until our Kingdom of Light finally breaks forth in permanent glory on the earth—whichever comes first.

Of course, this new light in the darkness is only for the wise. The foolish will not learn. Their lamps have gone out already. Their utterances have no true oil behind them any more. Let’s be clear: this election was indeed a referendum on a foolish prophetic-intercessory church that failed to buy the oil of identity purification against the night. They didn’t buy it because they didn’t think anything called “night” could really fall here as long as they were in the land doing their prophetic-intercessory “thing.”

Yes, many will persist in foolishness and whistle in the dark. They will still “confess” as if it is “daytime in America” and they just need to regroup and work a little harder and smarter to “take back this Christian country.” Look, anyone who after last Tuesday still thinks we are in a Christian country and who is still prophesying life support (called “destiny”) to America’s cultural and financial institutions is a fool. And if you are still listening to them, you are just as foolish.

Get it straight: America is Babylon the Great, founded on the Babylonian gods of Freemasonry at the hand of deceived yet genuine Christians. And Babylon must finally fall. For this cause, it should come as no surprise that night has once again fallen in America. And—no matter how many future “day times” (perhaps one or two more) may yet arise on the culture in the form of a spiritual awakening—America will like Belshazzar ultimately fall in one final night to make way for the true manifest Kingdom of Light through our returning Lord Jesus Christ.

Yet my trust is that some of the foolish will now awaken because of what has happened. Let it be so, Lord! We’re interested in redeeming straying prophets and intercessors, not condemning them. And I believe some will start to turn.

            - A Burning Question

“But,” as someone might have asked Paul, “If ‘night’ is inevitable on this land, why should we have interceded so hard for the ‘daytime’ to prevail?? And if America is eventually going to fall to be replaced anyway, why should we intercede for any more spiritual awakening to come?”

This question shadowing last Tuesday’s national intercessory defeat reaches into a mystery that needs to be unveiled now more than ever. It’s a mystery the Lord wants us as “children of the day” to understand. The writings to follow will work to explain the concepts of prophetic daytime and nighttime on a culture and our relationship to this as children of light. They will also relay further prophetic perceptions about this election and our future in this society as a prophetic intercessory people.
